Redsn0w Guide
Welcome to the iModzify Redsn0w Guide! This guide was made to teach you how to use Redsnow to jailbreak your device. Before you begin, you must know which version of iOS you are running. To locate your iOS, go to settings -> general -> about, then scroll down to where it says “version.” After you have done this, go to this website to download your IPSW that you will use with Redsnow. If your iOS version is not listed, go to our contact us page and we will try to find an alternative. Thanks for using the iModzify Redsn0w Guide!
How to use Redsn0w (Guide):
Please remember that before you use Redsn0w, you must download your CURRENT iOS. TO do this, follow the instructions above. To download your firmware, go to this website. After you have done this, click on the iPod firmware and locate and download your iOS. Make sure to save it to a good location, for this is needed to jailbreak with Redsn0w. Sometimes, you may need to use a different IPSW to jailbreak with Redsn0w.
If any iOS is not listed in the small category above, go to the contact us page and tell us.
IMPORTANT!!! Before starting your jailbreak, make sure you have downloaded the correct version of Redsn0w and the correct IPSW. Please make sure you read the steps first BEFORE starting the jailbreak! Also, if you have previously put your device into DFU mode, you may need to restore. If you do not know what DFU mode is, read the whole article FIRST, then continue on with the jailbreak.
First, run Redsn0w (on Mac or PC). If you experience any problems, right click (on windows), then go to properties -> compatibility, then check the “run this program in compatibility mode for Windows XP.”
Second, after Redsn0w has loaded up, click “browse” and locate your IPSW. An IPSW is your firmware, also known as iOS. To locate your firmware, follow the instructions above. After you know your IPSW, go to the felixbruns.de website and click on iPod firmware. After the page loads, find and download your firmware. After you have done this, click “browse” on Redsn0w and locate the IPSW you have just downloaded. Make sure you get the IPSW for your iOS or else the jailbreak might now work. Once you download your IPSW make sure it is made for your device and firmware. For example, if you have an iPhone 3G running iOS 3.0, your firmware file should say this: “iPhone1,2_3.0_7A341_Restore”
Third, once you have located and selected your IPSW, select open from the dialog box.
Fourth, in this screen you will be asked to install Cydia. If you want a meaningful jailbreak, you should check this box.
Fifth, power down your device with the data cable plugged into both your device, and your computer. If it is not plugged into your device, connect it to your device first, then power down your device. To do this, hold down the sleep/wake button until a slide to power off screen appears.
Sixth, this is the tricky step that you may mess up on. In case you do, don’t worry, you can start the process over. You will now need to put your device into Device Firmware Upgrade mode or DFU mode. If you have previously put your device into DFU mode, you may need to restore, but before restoring your device, see if the jailbreak works. If it does not work, restore your device. If your iOS was not upgraded, you may continue your jailbreak. If it was upgraded, you may need to download your new IPSW and new version of Redsn0w. Each version of Redsn0w works with a specific firmware. To put your device into DFU mode: 1. hold down the sleep/wake button for 3 seconds. 2. Without releasing the sleep/wake button, hold down the home button for 10 seconds. 3. Now release the sleep/wake button and continue holding the home button for an additional 15 seconds.
If you have done this successfully, you are now in DFU mode! Your screen should now change.
Seventh, just sit back and let Redsn0w do the rest for you. Your device will be doing many different things. The screen may change and say and it may say on the screen “downloading jailbreak data.” After Redsn0w is done doing its thing, you are now jailbroken. To ensure you are jailbroken, power down and then reboot your device. After you have done this, slide to unlock your iDevice and you should see Cydia on the next page.
